Coaching Revalidation

The Coach Award

The WKGB Ltd Coach Award scheme has 2 key purposes.

1. To ensure that member associations and clubs comply with the law on Health & Safety, Child Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
2. To demonstrate good governance & organisation, and adherence to the principles and practices expected of all national governing bodies by Sport Wales, UK Athletics and IOC.

Possessing a WKGB Coaching Qualification will demonstrate that the named person has achieved a level of technical competence in Karate and has passed the requirements of a WKGB Coaching Assessment.

Valid for 3 years

Once a coach has completed their qualification, they will receive their WKGB coach certificate which will be valid for 3 years.  When their coaching certification expires, coaches will be required to revalidate their qualification.

The WKGB coach revalidation system has been put in place to establish that all licensed Club Coaches are still actively coaching and hold current WKGB Coaching qualifications.

This requirement aims to ensure that coaches are up to date with current thinking and practices and minimise the chances of any accidents during or are a consequence of coaching activity.

How to revalidate

• Candidates must hold a current WKGB License.
• Candidates must complete a new WKGB Coach Award Application.
• Candidates must have completed a minimum of 1 hour per week (50 hours per year) of coaching in order to revalidate. 
• Candidates must have a current DBS Check, Safeguarding and First Aid Certificate.
• Candidates must have current Public Liability insurance.  

The same process is required for Level 1 and Level 2 coaches.
